I recently read an article on Jalop or one of the sub sites about a guy who calculated he was getting 500+hp from his tuned Ford Taurus. I can’t seem to find the article anywhere now. A lot of the commentariat speculated that his estimate (based on up-estimating from the whp on the dyno) was high fwiw. Any steers very much appreciated.

Ah shit—that explains why I couldn’t find it on Jalop! Thank you sir!! I’m in the market for a Ford Flex SEL and this is relevant to my interests.

I'm not gonna lie. After reading that article I started doing research on buying a SHO as my next purchase. Total sleeper.

Imagine the Flex with +/- 400hp tho? What a blast that would be. I’m a wagon guy and love the idea of a big ugly 7-people hauler that can blow the doors off all but out-and-out sports cars. I’m definitely buying the Flex SEL anyway, so this can be something I keep in mind.

Those things are soooo roomy inside. It's like being in a plush yacht.

I’m excited to see! I’m going to look at one tomorrow for the first time. I’m just hoping that the missus will be able to make it work as she’s 5’ even.

Shouldn't be a problem. The seats are a lot like Captains chairs. The hood is kinda long though so she may have trouble looking out that far. Either way have fun!

This is exactly what I thought when I saw the article: ‘’hey, same engine as the Flex! ‘’

That would be a pretty neat family hauler.

Yeah I’m dead set on the Flex, and although I can’t see myself going all-out like this guy, the knowledge that it’s very tunable is exciting.

I got it! 2013 Limited, black on black with perforated leather seats and the wood trim, MS Sync. Drove it 100 miles home and it is sooo nice inside!

So I installed a K&N cold air intake and got a custom tune from Torrie at SCT Performance and already the Flex sounds and responds so much better. When you put your foot down it roars and the throttle response and shifting is so much better post-tune. Really fun to drive!

In the dealership lot. It’s a 2013 Limited. Very clean despite having 50k on the clock.

And after blacking out the chrome strip and the silver details around and between the foglights.

Next mods planned (whenever I have money again!) are H&R springs which will slightly lower it and firm up the ride. I’m going to switch to Konig Oversteer wheels in black with Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires. Same size as stock—20s; I was thinking about 22s but don’t want to add rotational weight. The Konigs are lighter than the stock wheels and in any case I’m not so into that look on non-sporting vehicles. 8.5” +35 will give them a little more poke which will look good, especially with the ride an inch or so lower. Oh and I’ll be painting that center bar in the grill body color.

So far I’m loving the car. I was driving an older A6 Avant which handled great, but I’m loving the creature comforts of this much newer vehicle. Contactless keys, remote start, instant bluetooth etc—love it! But the tune and the CAI really make the car.
